Reflections on Three Years of Syracuse Cleaning Services
In August of 2021, amidst the ongoing pandemic, I made a bold decision to start a cleaning company. It was a time when masks had become a norm, and the world felt uncertain. Without telling anyone except my 7-year-old son, I began posting ads for cleaning services under a business name I came up with on a whim. For months, I kept it quiet—no social media, no family or friends involved. I used my experience from setting up businesses for Spectrum services and taught myself everything from marketing to bookkeeping, coding to website building, and even safety training. I was running a business—quietly, but determinedly.
Fast forward three years, and Syracuse Cleaning Services has become my world. I proudly tell everyone I meet that I own this company. I share our journey on social media and ask for support from friends and family. My free time is spent watching cleaning and business management videos, and even my 1-year-old is obsessed with pretending to clean. Our Elf on the Shelf sports the company logo! So much has changed since the early days, and I’m thrilled to see where the next three years will take us.
Syracuse is a unique place. You either love it here or wish you were somewhere else. I’m firmly in the former category. My older son attends the Syracuse City School District, and we rarely leave the city, venturing to the suburbs only for activities like soccer and hiking. I even convinced my dad to move to Syracuse after spending his entire life in a surrounding suburb. My goals are big, but they’re within reach—and I’m excited to continue achieving them.
What sets Syracuse Cleaning Services apart from the competition is our deep connection to this city. We’re SYRACUSE Cleaning Services, dedicated to this community. We love it here, and we love what we do. I’ve built a close-knit, passionate team, and I’m grateful for every member.
Three years from now, I envision Syracuse Cleaning Services running smoothly without my day-to-day involvement. We’ll have deepened our community involvement, gained recognition through local media, expanded our commercial accounts, and become a well-known name in Syracuse. Our vans will be a familiar sight around town, and when someone asks what I do, they’ll say, “Oh, that’s the one with the cool vans?”—and I’ll proudly say, “Yes, that’s us.”
The future of SCS is incredibly exciting, and I’m so grateful to be part of this journey.
