Saturday’s In Syracuse: Apex Entertainment
Here at SCS, we LOVE everything having to do with Syracuse. This is the third post of a series called Saturday’s In Syracuse where we will post our review of a local small business in the Syracuse area. If you would like for your small business to be reviewed, please send us an email.
This week, we are giving our review of Apex Entertainment located within Destiny USA. The actual address for Apex is 9583 Destiny USA Dr, Syracuse, NY 13204 and it can be located on the third floor of the new part of the mall by WonderWorks.
Apex is an awesome destination for a myriad of events. I’ve taken my son to play at Apex, taken a friend’s toddler there (she lovingly calls it the inside playground), been on a first date at Apex and been to an event at Apex.
They have large banquet rooms with projectors, seating and they have a chef on staff to provide catering for events, if needed (as well as a full bar). There’s a decently-sized arcade (not quite as big as Dave & Buster’s but also less expensive; and what’s the difference between having 30 arcade games available to you vs. 50? You’ll stay busy for an hour regardless). They have axe-throwing, bowling, bumper cars, and (my personal favorite) laser tag. At Halloween time, they had staff members dressed up and jumping out at you during laser tag which absolutely traumatized my 7 year-old but you do have the option to request that they not do that.
The benefits: there’s a ton to do. You can stay busy so if you’re going on a first date or looking for something to do where there isn’t a ton of pressure for conversation, Apex is an awesome option. Their drinks are standard bar pricing. Their food is on the pricier side for what it is and didn’t taste that amazing (given the price). Axe throwing is a lot of fun. You can never go wrong with bowling and arcade games.
The downsides: Their food is on the pricier side for what it is (standard bar food). Given the price, I was expecting it to taste a little less like it was from a bag. The bumper car area is very, very small and probably wouldn’t be fun with adults or older kids (although it was a hit for my 7 YO). The space wasn’t particularly clean and during a pandemic, it’s alarming to see garbage on the floor because that makes me think they very likely aren’t sanitizing things enough.
All in all, Apex is a fun place to spend a few hours. I wouldn’t plan to eat there but considering they’re located in Destiny, you can easily eat at one of the many other dining options in the mall and then go visit Apex afterward. Personally, I’d probably bring a spray bottle of Clorox in my purse to clean the games before allowing my son to touch them but that’s user preference :-)
